Deciding Where to Mount Your Flat Screen Television

Deciding where to put your flat panel television can be a very important decision; particularly if you decide to mount it rather than place it on a table or in an entertainment center. Placing  a television mount on the wall and potentially running cables through the walls is a real commitment and makes changing the location of your flat screen undesirable. However, such mounting techniques allow users to take full advantage of the space saving design of these beautiful screens.

Here are a few of the things to consider when thinking about where you want to locate your flat panel TV:

·         Where will the lighting be optimal? As with any television screen, you will want to be sure that the view of your flat panel won't be obscured by excessive glare from a window.

·         Where is there adequate space for your flat panel television and any related equipment? For instance, if you will be mounting speakers to the side of the screen the space will need to accommodate this.

·         Will the location selected allow for a secure mount? Are there studs to support the weight of the television and the mount?

·         Does the location and the mount used allow for the safety of the screen? Is it out of the path of traffic, does it allow for good ventilation if it is a plasma screen, etc.

·         Can seating be arranged to allow for optimal viewing? This is partially dependent upon the viewing angle as well as distance from the television screen. Will you be able to have a good view and be comfortable after hours of viewing?

·         Will you be able to get the necessary wiring to the television and other equipment or can you hire someone else to do it?
