Using your scanner properly can save it and result in better images. Use a microfiber cloth to keep the glass lint and spot free. Remember that grease and oils can damage the glass as well as obscuring the image being scanned; thus, avoid touching the glass. Avoid forcing the scanner lid down on a large book which can damage the hinges. The book can be weighted down with another heavy book to flatten it against the sanner glass. Also, allow the scanner to warm up for 4 or 5 minutes before beginning a scanning job.
