Last week, I talked a bit about the options for a television that is more environmentally friendly. LED backlit TVs were one of those options. LCD tends to be one of the more cost efficient sets currently available to the average consumer, but an LED backlit TV can save even more energy. This is due in part to the fact that the LED backlights are more efficient than the CCFL backlights used in traditional LCD sets. The unfortunate part of this story however, is the LED backlit sets are often priced higher than traditional ones.
However, manufacturers known for lower costs are getting into the game. Vizio now offers a LED backlit model that is a bit easier on the wallet. Their 55" set is said to consume less power (56% acutally) than the guidelines defined by Energy Star 3.0. It has full 1080p resolution and an impressive 240HZ refresh rate for smooth movement during action scenes. The Vizio VF551XVT is available for $2199 on line.
