An Affordable Text Messaging Device

Posted on November 11, 2009 at 4:58 AM

Raise your hand if you prefer text messaging to voice calling. There are probably quite a few under 30's out there who qualify as well as a number of busy business professionals. Recently, while I was on the hunt for good text only plans, of which there are a few, I found a very handy device that had slipped under my radar.

The Peek Pronto is not a cell phone. It's a small device with the primary talents of e-mail and text messaging. It gives users up to 5 e-mail accounts and unlimited messaging nationwide.  It features a 2.5" color QVGA screen so it's not going to wow you with it's visual displays but then you won't be viewing photos and videos on this thing. It does support PDF and word documents however. It has a large QWERTY keyboard that's great for the assigned tasks. The battery life is reported to be a phenomenal 4 to 5 days with a charging time of about 2 hours.  The cost is a huge plus as well. It can be found online for under $50 with service for under $20/month. In fact, for those who aren't shy about committment and really want to hold the long term cost down, the Pronto can be purchased for $299 with lifetime service included.
