The pressure is definitely on cellular providers to reduce costs and/or contractual committments. The number of no contract cell phone options continues to expand and come down in price for consumers. Tracfone, Boost, Virgin Mobile and so forth continue to expand their offerings and upgrade the phones that they provide. Meanwhile Net 10, MetroPCS, Boost, and Virgin Mobile now offer international text messaging and/or calling to make their services more competitive with the traditional carriers.
Walmart entered the fray earlier this month as well with their own no contract option and their Straight Talk phones. They now have a $30/month plan that gives users 1,000 minutes and 1,000 text messages and a $45/month plan with unlimited text messaging, voice calls, and data. Both plans also provid unlimited 411 calls. The phones themselves are priced at $29.
