Jitterbug is probably the number one phone recommended for seniors who aren't too tech savvy or have difficulty with dexterity, vision, and/or hearing with traditional cell phones. They introduced their new model a few months ago. The Jitterbug J is a bit slimmer and lighter than previous models. Users can now opt for voice mail, roadside assistances, and even a 24 hour nurse hotline for a fee. The new model also has a volume control button on the front of the phone and a designated speakerphone button. It cost $147.
Another cell phone for seniors that is new to the US market is from Swedish maker, Doro. Their Phone Easy 345 is a $40 candybar style phone and the Phone Easy 410 is a $50 flip phone. Both offer big buttons, larger font, and a louder than average speaker. They aren't as ergonomic as the Jitterbug model but do have a fairly easy-to-grip surface and a loud vibrating ringer. These phones are hearing aid compatible and are available with plans costing as little as $10/month, no contract required. Users get a 100 entry phone book, the ability to send and receive text messages, phone calling, a wake up alarm, FM radio, flashlight, and the ability to receive MMS (picture) messages. These phones come via Consumer Cellular and the AT&T network.
